Prescribed burn workshop
This is a three day workshop to train participants in the use of prescribed fire on forest land in Louisiana and begin the process of certification as a prescribed fire manager. Accomodations and some meals will be included. Details will be sent to registered participants.

About the event
This is a three day workshop to train participants in the use of prescribed fire on forest land in Louisiana and begin the process of certification as a prescribed fire manager. Day 1 is classroom on the nature of fire and its management. Day 2, weather permitting, is a field exercise using prescribed fire. Day 3 is a review of classroom and field activities and certification testing. Accomodations and some meals will be included. Details will be sent to registered participants.

8:30 am - Registration
9 am - Classroom Morning Session will cover the basics of prescribed fire, its applications, and behavior.
Noon – Lunch
1 pm – Classroom Afternoon Session will cover wildlife impacts and creating a prescription for a burn.
Tuesday, March 12, 2024
Fire day if weather permits* (lunch provided). Participants will meet at the LEF Center at 8:30 am to carpool / caravan to the burn location. Participants will remain onsite until the burn is complete.
Wednesday, March 13, 2024
9 am Classroom review and exam (half day). Participants will review the previous day's prescribed burn and the course curriculum. An exam will be administered at the end of the workshop.
