More about Louisiana Forestry Association

The mission of the Louisiana Forestry Association is to promote the health and productivity of Louisiana's forests for present and future generations through the practice of Sustainable Forestry.

The Louisiana Forestry Association was formed in 1947 to foster the practice of forestry, to rebuild the state's cut-over lands, and to build a healthy forest industry. Now, 70 years later, forests cover 48% of the state's land area and forestry is the second largest manufacturing employer in Louisiana. That is the true Louisiana success story.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Louisiana Forestry Association today is a statewide, private, nonprofit association made up of almost 4,000 members, mostly large and small landowners along with foresters, employees of forest products industries, wood suppliers, loggers and related industries.

We work to:

  • Inform the public about forestry and Louisiana's forest products industry;

  • Help private landowners know more about forest management and reforestation on their lands;

  • Educate landowners and logging contractors in the use of forestry practices that protect Louisiana's abundant natural resources;

  • Educate elementary and high school students about wise forest use;

  • Protect our lands from woods arson and other forest crimes.

  • We represent our members before public bodies on national, state and local issues that affect their forestland, logging and wood products industry investments.

  • We are the publishers of Forests & People magazine and also distribute other information to the general public.

Objectives:

  • Utilize forest resources for today's needs while preparing for the needs of future generations.

  • Educate and inform students, teachers and the general public about the importance of forests and the forest economy that it supports.

  • Provide training and education for landowners, loggers, foresters in the most scientific and environmentally responsible practice of forestry.

  • Supporting and endorsing policy that protects property rights and the right to manage our forests for the benefit of the landowner and society.

  • Attracting new members to the association who support the value of productive, healthy forests obtained through the practice of sustainable forestry.
