BIO: President of Loren C. Scott & Associates Inc., an economic consulting firm whose clients include several Fortune 500 companies. He is a member of the National Business Economic Issues Council, which holds discussions about issues of state, national and international interests and includes experts in retail trade and trucking.

Brooks Mendell

TOPIC: Forests, Fiber, and Finance: Investment and Management Trends Related to Timberlands, Mills, and Trade

BIO: President and CEO of Forisk, leading firm’s research program. An internationally recognized business advisor, researcher and speaker in forestry business, timberland investing and wood bioenergy. He earned BS and MS degrees at M.I.T., an MBA at the University of California at Berkley and Ph.D. in Forest Finance from UGA.

Corey Shircliff

TOPIC: The Science of Carbon Storage and Sequestration

BIO: Corey Shircliff, P.G., is a Senior Geologist at Cavern Solutions, Inc (a Subterra company). Corey provides technical support on injection well projects including Class VI CCS, underground storage projects, salt water disposal wells, and industrial well projects. Prior to working at CSI, Corey worked at the Louisiana Dept. of Energy and Natural Resources for ten years, where she led the team applying for Class VI state primacy in Louisiana, building the program for the storage of hydrogen and other non-hydrocarbons, and ultimately serving as the Assistant Director of the Injection and Mining Division. Corey started her career as an operations geologist in the Bakken.

Dr. Paul Schubert

TOPIC: How Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) Can Benefit the Forestry Industry

BIO: Founder and CEO of Strategic Biofuels which is developing the Louisiana Green Fuels project in Caldwell Parish in Northeastern Louisiana. This project will produce deeply carbon negative Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by integrating fuel and power production from forestry wastes and capturing and geologically sequestering the carbon dioxide captured from those two processes. He has 40 years of experience in the petrochemical and natural gas industries including catalyst and process development, asset integrity management, emissions monitoring, and OSHA compliance. He has over 25 years of experience in synthetic fuels and a dozen years in renewable fuels project development. Strategic Biofuels recently published the “Practical Guide to Forestry Feedstock Under the Renewable Fuel Standard” based on their two year cooperative program with the USDA Forest Service and the US EPA. Dr. Schubert holds a BS in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, a PhD. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and conducted studies in Business Administration at San Jose State University. He is an inventor on 15 US Patents and an author of over 40 publications.

TOPIC: Road Map to Recovery

BIO: After serving 15 years as a Merchant Marine Officer, I left the ships and sea, to be home while we raised our children. Starting over, the opportunity to work for the logging association in Minnesota became available. As the Executive Director of the Associated Contract Loggers and Truckers of Minnesota for 17 years, the organization grew to be the largest timber trade association in Minnesota. When the position with the American Loggers Council opened, upon the retirement of Danny Dructor, I was hired 3 years ago to be the Executive Director. The American Loggers Council moved its headquarters to Washington DC, increased its representation to 42 states, and is the recognized national voice of the timber industry.

Derek Breedlove

TOPIC: Improving Safety, Driver Accountability and Lowering Liability Claims

BIO: Derek Breedlove has been in the telematics industry for more than 20 years, spending the past five years working mainly in the logging industry. He is a member of more than 20 logging and forestry associations across the country. He is married and has two daughters.
