About the Event

A three-day prescribed burn workshop is being held Wednesday, Oct. 7 through Friday, Oct. 9 at the Hammond Research Station in Hammond and put on by the LSU AgCenter. The class is designed for anyone seeking to become a Louisiana Certified Prescribed Burner.

The workshop will teach you how to conduct prescribed burns legally and safely in your timberlands, according to the press release from the LSU AgCenter. Registration is $100. Included will be needed materials, refreshments and meals, along with any supplies that might be needed.

The first two days' topics will cover fuels, fire behavior, fire weather, fire ecology, burning technique, smoke management, fire lane establishment, burn planning and more. On the third day, participants will be taught about the Louisiana Certified Prescribed Burner Program. Successful completion of the class, passing an exam and burning experience are required for Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry certification.

Participants should wear long sleeve shirts, pants and closed-toed shows.
