The Forestry Products Division of WestRock has an opening for an Area Manager, who is responsible for leading the open market fiber purchases at the company's mill in Hodge, Louisiana. The area manager is relied upon to develop specific strategies to achieve targets, developing team members, leading and developing initiatives, as well as ensuring the team provides a strong customer service to mill customers. In addition, the manager will maintain the highest compliance with safety and environmental mandates. More timber theft charges added

A man already in jail on timber theft charges, has had additional charges made against him, this time in Tangipahoa Parish, according to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Derma Brent O'Neal, 39, of Livingston, is being held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on two charges of timber theft unrelated to the Tangipahoa Parish charge. The new charge stems from a complaint from an Amite landowner who said she entered into an agreement with O'Neal to harvest 20 acres of timber on her property. According to LDAF, the operation lasted from December 2017 to June 2018 in which 19 loads of hardwood timber were sold to various sawmills in southeast Louisiana. The timber was va

Sabine Parish man accused of stealing wood chips

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry arrested a Sabine Parish man in connection with the theft of wood chips valued at more than $68,000. According to LDAF, 51-year-old Veachel Parker Jr., of 77 Parker Circle in Noble, is alleged to have stolen 62 loads of wood chips from a Natchitoches Parish sawmill between September 2017 and January 2018. Parker is the owner and operator of Parker Trucking LLC. Investigators said Parker was hired to deliver wood chips to another mill in DeSoto Parish, but after delivering the loads to its destination, he would keep the proceeds, according to the LDAF press release. Parker was arrested Aug. 28 on one count of theft. Bond was set at $
