The Louisiana Legislature can affect your forestland, logging and manufacturing facility every time it goes into session. This year the Regular Session begins March 9.
You can stay informed about legislative decisions by receiving the Louisiana Forestry Legislative Report. It is a service to members of the Louisiana Forestry Association. If you aren’t signed up to receive the Legislative Report, you can do so by clicking here.
In past sessions, the Legislature tried to make your private property accessible for public use. That bill failed because people were informed and spoke out in opposition.
Last legislative session, efforts to increase the weight on log trucks and tie forestry more closely with the Right to Farm and Practice Forestry were successful.
Also during the last legislative session, efforts were unsuccessful to lower automobile and truck insurance costs. This issue will come up again in the 2020 Legislative Session.
