Registration begins for 78th annual convention

Registration has opened for the Louisiana Forestry Association 78th annual convention, Aug. 19-21, 2025, at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino Resort in Lake Charles.

This year's theme is "Focus on Forestry: The Future and Adapting to Change" and begins with the President's Reception on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Wednesday, Aug. 20 will be filled with fellowship includes a great slate of speakers. Brooks Mendell will kick off the General Session with an overall look at the current economics of the industry, followed by Corey Shircliff with her presentation on "The Science of Carbon Sequestration and Storage." Paul Schubert closes out the session with "How Carbon Capture and Sequestration Can Benefit Forestry."

A landowners seminar put on by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF) will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19 before the annual convention. Landowners wishing to attend that free seminar must register with the LDAF by calling 225-925-4500. That seminar is separate from the LFA annual convention; to attend any part of the LFA 78th annual convention you must be registered and remember to wear your name badge at all events. The always popular Bloody Mary Social will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 20 before the Tree Farm Luncheon where the Tree Farmer of the Year will be honored. Then in the afternoon, the logger session will be held and will feature American Loggers Council Executive Director Scott Dane followed by Derek Breedlove who will give a presentation on the use of cameras in logging vehicles. In the evening, the Friends of Forestry Social will precede the Logger Appreciation Dinner where the Logger of the Year will be celebrated. Then on Thursday, the closing breakfast will feature Dr. Loren Scott with an economic look for the state and forestry and will close with the Exhibitor Extravaganza!
