Prescribed Fire Council to meet

The annual meeting of the Louisiana Prescribed Fire Council will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the DeWitt Livestock Facility (Dean Lee Research Station/LSUA) in Alexandria.

The meeting will teach safe and effective use of controlled fire for land management, according to a press release from the LSU AgCenter.

On the agenda will be Kurt Kotteman of Kotteman Tree & Timber Services who will discuss how to hire a prescribed burn contractor. Louis Lamberty, vice president of Drone Amplified, will give a presentation on Ignis, technology that makes fire management safer and more affordable for landowners, public wild lands, as well as federal and state agencies, according to the release.

In the afternoon, James Hendrix will hold an optional training session to show farmers and ranchers how to become state certified burn managers in agriculture.

The meeting is free, but registration is requested to ensure enough seating.

More information can be received by contacting Keith Hawkins, AgCenter county agent at (337) 463-7006 or by email at khawkins@agcenter.lsu.edu
